Planning + Community Development

Land Use Planning

As a land use planner for Teton County, Wyoming in the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the interplay of conservation, development, and affordable housing was at the heart of my position. Projects ranged from reviewing building permits to development plans. I helped draft new regulations for natural resource protections and regularly presented before elected officials. (2017 - 2019)

Audio Mapping

Pushing the bounds of map making I teamed up with radio producer Jocelyn Frank and GIS lead Jay Gregory to create an auditory depiction of physical space and form. We presented at MIT's Listening to the City Conference and the Megapolis Audio Festival in Philadelphia.  Part art piece, part tool for planners and designers, check out one of the audio maps we made of impervious surfaces in Cambridge, MA. (2017)

ECOLOGICAL DESIGN

Designing healthy spaces for people and the natural environment is the heart of ecological planning and design. A biophiliac at heart, I am available for freelance landscape design projects. Past work includes a green infrastructure design in a post-industrial New England urban center, a master plan for coastal resilience, and a redesign of a town common.

FOod Access

Founded in 2015, the Uptown Market in NW Washington, DC activates an otherwise empty intersection. Now managed by Community Foodworks, its presence has helped spur revitalization in the corridor and was the catalyst for the neighborhood's recent Main Street designation. The market serves a diverse community, offering programming for kids as well as assistance for low income neighbors. (2015)

Public Art

Turning a concrete wall into a mural, and an abandoned phone booth into a listening station— these are just some of the projects that I helped conceive during my time with Takoma Park, Maryland, managing the city’s renowned public art and humanities programming. I produced monthly documentary film screenings, performing arts events, and a lecture series, and oversaw installations in our four gallery spaces. (2012 - 2016)

Education Policy

Partnering with the ACLU, NAACP and local chambers of commerce, among other groups, I helped communities re-frame teacher contract negotiations to better align with student achievement goals. Additionally, I published four white papers and an article in Education Next, “Invisible Ink in Collective Bargaining Agreements,” (Harvard University Press). (2005 - 2012)
